The lawyer cum journalist debuted as an actress in 2017, appearing in the road movie/comedy Girls Trip, which was a huge box office hit. Made on a budget of $20 million, the movie had a gross collection of $140.9 million. Hostin played alongside actresses like Jada Pinkett Smith and Regina Hall in the money spinner.

Hostin began her journey working as a law clerk to retire as a Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals Robert M. Bell. She began her TV career as a commentator for Court TV, after which she was approached for the Fox News program The O'Reilly Factor. In September 2007, CNN President Jon Klein signed her to the network as the legal analyst for its morning show American Morning.

Hostin first appeared on the ABC daytime talk show The View in 2014. In March 2016, she joined ABC News and in September 2016, she was announced the permanent co-host of The View.
