During his solo career, Glenn had 12 songs charting the U.S. Top 100. He has contributed songs like “Flip City” to the Ghostbusters II, and “Part of Me, Part of You” for Thelma & Louise.

Frey recorded “You Belong to the City” for Miami Vice, which stayed at No.11 in the U.S. album charts in 1985. “Smuggler’s Blues”, another hit from the same soundtrack peaked to No.12 in the Billboard Hot 100.

They invited Randy Meisner to play bass, and Bernie Leadon to play guitar. Frey played guitars and piano, while Henley got down on drums. Together they formed the Eagles in 1971, in Los Angeles.

The Eagles broke up in 1980 and reunited in 1994 releasing their new album titled Hell Freezes Over. The singer informed that the band never broke up, but were actually on a long 14-year vacation.

After the release of their two-part documentary History of the Eagles, the band went on a world tour. The tour ended on July 29, 2015, at Bossier City, Louisiana, making it Frey’s last appearance with the band.

Pursuing a Solo Career

After the disbanding of the Eagles in 1980, Frey ventured out pursuing a solo music career. The risk turned in favor of the artist giving him two No. 2 hits in the Billboard.

In the 1990s, he founded his own independent record label company, Mission Records, in partnership with attorney Peter Lopez. He, however, never released any of his songs under Mission Records and the company later disbanded.

He released his first solo album, After Hours, on May 8, 2012. After Hours was his solo release after 20 years gap. It featured covers of pop songs from the 1940s to the 60s.

Untimely demise, Frey died in January 2016

Frey had been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, which affected the joints in his body. His prescribed medicines eventually led to pneumonia and colitis.

Frey died on January 18, 2016, at the age of 67 from complications of rheumatoid arthritis, acute Ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia, while he was still trying to recover from the gastrointestinal tract. His medications had failed his immune system.

On January 18, his then-wife Cindy Millican filed a lawsuit against Mount Sinai Hospital and against doctor Steven Itzkowitz for the wrongful death of Frey.
