“I was married to a cheater”, back in 2006, Gayle King addressed her husband’s infidelities on her XM Satellite Radio show. It was very bold of the 61-year-old TV personality to speak up about her sufferings in front of millions of audiences.
The witty CBS This Morning host, Gayle King, opened up further about the cheating scandal of her husband William Bumpus with Vanity Fair. In the interview, when she was asked who she despises most in the world, she answered very frankly with the hint of her ever-charming humorous side.
“'Despise' is a strong word. But I'm not a huge fan of the woman I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16 p.m. – but I don't remember the details."
Married in 1982, the marriage ended after 11 years in 1993 when the divorce was finalized. But it is pretty clear that the marriage had already ended 3 years back on that dreadful night.
William Bumpus responded to his ex's admission by issuing a statement.
“I have been haunted by this life-altering choice. Though I have dealt with this privately. I publicly apologize for the major transgression that dramatically changed all of our lives.'
Further, the lawyer and former assistant attorney general only had lovely words to say about his ex-wife.
“I have nothing but the utmost respect for Gayle and how she handled herself with grace. Despite the situation, she kept our children, as well as my relationship and involvement with them, as a clear priority. Gayle was a great wife, an excellent mother, and a fantastic co-parent. I am eternally grateful for all that she has done and continues to do to enrich my life and the lives of our incredible adult children.”
Someone does seem to be regretting his choices! But a little too late, ain’t it?
Gayle King and William Bumpus have two adult children, son William Jr., and daughter Kirby.
In the very revealing radio show of hers, King spoke about her kids as well. “It's so important for people who have children together to get along. Regardless of how you feel about the other as a spouse, you still have these children to raise together.” No doubt a very strong personality, we are glad she has come out of her tragedy gracefully and has been very successful with her career as well.
