Johnny Knoxville was previously married to his first wife, Melanie Lynn Cates. The former couple got married on May 15, 1995, and even welcomed a daughter named Madison in 1996. However, they separated in July 2006 followed by the filing of divorce on July 3, 2007.

Later in July 2009, the couple's divorce was finalized on a settlement and joint custody of their daughter. The settlement agreed on the payment of $6,000 monthly child support for their daughter.
