Talking about their relationship, the 29-year old model told Entertainment Tonight in 2016.

We have a rule. We don’t go longer than two weeks without seeing each other. It’s absolutely fabulous. I love it. We just meet in L.A. or New York. We meet in Paris, Miami. It’s pretty sexy.

After knowing each other for four months, the director of Six Months Later proposed to his now-wife in an unexpected way, "I really like you, and I really want to be your boyfriend. Will you be my girlfriend?" The elegant model must have been impressed by his simplicity, she simply said, "yes". Lucky man!

Though Ashley hoped her family to be open-minded the couple had to face her family's prejudices.

Talking about it, Ashley wrote.

I never told my grandparents that the man I was bringing home was black. I naively hoped everyone would be  color-blind  — which is not what happened. When my grandparents met Justin, my grandmother was cordial but cold. She greeted him and immediately walked away. When it came time for them to leave, my grandparents didn’t even acknowledge him.

I had never seen my loving, hardworking and wonderful grandma be so hurtful and so racist. I was in shock.

Well, love finds a way!

Justin took his time to let her parents know him well and as per Ashley it didn't take long enough for them to love him as a person above all prejudice.
