Graduated from University of Western Ontario

Kevin was raised in Toronto, Ontario alongside his brother Kelly Newman. After the completion of his secondary education, he joined University of Western Ontario. He earned his undergraduate degree from there in 1981. The same year he became associated with Global Ontario.

Began working at Global Ontario

While he was in University of Western Ontario he worked at CHRW radio as a news director. In 1981, after he graduated from University of Western Ontario, he joined Global Ontario as a reporter. He worked there for the next five years.

Began serving CTV as the network's parliamentary correspondent

After spending half a decade at Global Ontario, he began working at CTV as the network's parliamentary correspondent in 1986. Two years later, he joined CBC Television where he served as a reporter and anchor.
