His current wife, Marlo Thomas is an American actress, producer, and social activist, best known for starring on the popular sitcom That Girl and Free to Be... You and Me.

Phil's Second Marriage after Divorce with First-Wife Margaret Cooney

Though Phil Donahue is currently enjoying a happy married life with wife Marlo Thomas, he has once gone through a tragic marital relationship. He was previously married to Margaret Cooney (both the profession and identification of his first wife is a mystery till date).

Phil and Margaret tied the knot in 1958, and the couple stayed together for 17 long years. But unfortunately, the relationship between them started turning sour ending their marital relationship with a divorce in 1975.

When they called off their marriage, Phil and Margaret were already the parents of five children: four sons namely Michael Donahue, Kevin Donahue, Daniel Donahue, and James "Jim" Patrick Donahue, and a daughter, Mary Rose.

After five long years of his divorce with Margaret, Phil went on to date Marlo Thomas (daughter of comedian and television producer Danny Thomas and an American actress Rose Marie Mantell Thomas ). The couple eventually tied the knot on 21 May 1980. This was Phil's second and Marlo's first marriage.

After their marriage, Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Marlo Thomas became the mother of five children (all from his ex-wife). Unfortunately, Phil and Marlo's youngest son James "Jim" Patrick Donahue died suddenly in August 2014 because of an aortic aneurysm. He was 51 years old when he died and was living in Honolulu.
