Noah Galvin: I don't want my character to be like Eric Stonestreet's cam in Modern Family

The Real O'Neals star Noah Galvin plays Kenny, a 16-year-old who just came out as gay to his Irish Catholic family. Recently the 22-year-old actor said he doesn’t want his character to be like Eric Stonestreet’s Cameron Tucker of ABC's Modern Family.

Galvin had nice words for the actor Stonestreet referring to him as a "wonderful" actor but had some harsh comments on the character he played. "He’s playing a caricature of a caricature of a stereotype of stereotype on Modern Family,” Galvin stated.

Stonestreet is straight in real life. And as "hilarious" as Galvin finds Cam, he feels that there is a "lack of authenticity”. He further added, “I think people — especially young gay kids — they can laugh at it, and they can see it as a source of comedy, but like, nothing more than that,”. He went on to say “And I want Kenny to be more than the funny gay kid.”

An outburst emerged against Galvin for these statements and later less than 12 hours after the interview was posted, Galvin tweeted an apology for his “irresponsible and stupid” comments.

He, apparently, is more interested in the character of Kenny being a positive role model. He seemed very excited to get to explore Kenny’s passions because as a character, he hasn’t had those opportunities for he had been suppressing his true self. He feels that Kenny has never been able to fully give himself over to anything in terms of an extracurricular. "He has a Chicago poster in his room and a record player, but what the f— does that mean in terms of who he is as a person?” Galvin ranted on.

Galvin has never officially addressed rumours of his affair and girlfriend or boyfriends. However, a reference to his character's love life was made in an episode of The Real O'Neals “the real wedding”, when Kenny lands the role of Romeo in a school play, with Mimi (Hannah Marks) playing Juliet, Eileen (Martha Plimpton) volunteers to help, thinking it will be the only time she will ever see Kenny getting married to a girl and make her his wife.
