However, it was his role as Stanley Kowalski in the 1951 film adaptation of the play "A Streetcar Named Desire" that led him to earn fame and showcased his acting talent to the world finally earning him a nomination for Academy Award for Best Actor.

He went on to win an Academy Award for Best Actor in the year 1954 for his portrayal of Terry Malloy in "On the Waterfront".

Brando's career has not always been as successful as some of his movies was not able to gain good reviews or box office success. The 1960s was considered as the declining year for Marlon's acting skill as most of the movies that he did during those times were bashed by critics and were not appreciated by the audience as well.

Movies like "One-Eyed Jacks", "Mutiny on the Bounty" and "A Countess From Hong Kong" are some of the movies in the 1960s that were not the best of his work.

A person can learn many things from his mistakes and it seems to have been the case for Brando; after 10 years from his less than successful movies, he did the role of Vito Corleone in the movie "The Godfather".

Marlon Brando was the actor who had the strong screen presence whenever his character would come on screen. He was an actor who studied with Stella Adler and is credited for popularizing Stanislavski System, which is also known as method acting. 

Brando was the first one to show the world the capability and his acting has inspired many actors to follow in his footsteps. Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino are the first actors to follow in his footsteps who were later followed on by Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, and Daniel Day-Lewis.

Marlon Brando's Marriage and His Children

Brando may have been successful in movies and may have inspired many generations, but he was not able to achieve a successful relationship and marriage. Marlon was married three times, but he was unable to make any of those marriages a success.

His first marriage was to Anna Kashfi whom he married in the year 1957. They had one child together, Christian Devi Brando, who later on went to jail for murdering his half-sister's boyfriend. Even though he was married to Kashil, he could not remain monogamous to her and had numerous relationships. Brando and Kashil divorced in 1959.

Brando's second marriage was with Mexican actress Movita Castenada in 1960. She was seven years his senior, and he met her on the set of "Viva Zapata". They had two children together and divorced two years later after their marriage.

Brando got married for the third time and to a much younger actress this time. His third marriage was to the actress Tarita Teriipaia, whom he married in 1962. When they first met, she was only 19 years old while he was 37. He was married to her for the longest time, and they had three children together. They eventually divorced in 1972.

Aside from his marriages, he also had an affair with a maid named Maria Cristina Ruiz with whom his affair lasted for 14 long years. He had another three children with her and he also adopted a few children throughout these relationships. Marlon Brando has total or 11 children but some say that the number of children that he has is closer to 15.
