Revealed: The life of Jamaican-American journalist Jenna Wolfe after walking away from NBC's Today

Rabina Koirala Sat Jun, 2016

"It’s time to veer outside my comfort zone, regardless of where I end up", were the words on Jenna Wolfe's note where she bade farewell to her network and colleagues back in 2015. All the adventures she sought, the memories she made, and the downfalls she saw, all came together and made her who she is today.  And now after leaving NBC, she seems to have moved on to a newer phase in her life.

Although she has not explicitly stated what she will be doing, it seems Wolfe enjoys the feeling of being a little ignorant about her life. Maybe, she enjoys the unpredictable.

Jenna Wolfe was born as Jennifer Wolfeld in 1974 in Jamaica and grew up in Haiti. Jenna’s father, Bennet Wolfeld, was a Puerto Rican Jew who was the owner of a chain of leather factories back in Puerto Rico and later moved to Jamaica with his wife. Jenna’s mother, Sheila Greenfeld, was an American Jew and grew up in New Jersey. She is of Jamaican and American nationality.

She first got into the journalism arena by working as an intern in the Today Show. She worked for ABC till 2007 after which she joined NBC News. Then Wolfe left ABC for NBC, where she was a Today show correspondent and Weekend Today co-anchor for eight years till 2015.

Wolfe had blogged on The Today Show’s website about her first pregnancy. In her post she had talked about leaving behind her life of “white-river rafting and jumping off cliffs in favor of being a Mom, and how this wasn’t really the direction she had anticipated for her life”. But neither had she probably anticipated being “demoted” by her own network. In 2012, she was moved from her co-hosting spot to the news anchor position and was replaced as co-host by Erica Hill which created quite the scandal within the network and amongst the Wolfe fans. She had dropped a hint on Instagram about her departure from NBC.

After publicly announcing her sexual orientation, Jenna Wolfe joined the growing ranks of homosexuals currently visible on major news networks at any given time, such as Jane Velez-Mitchell, Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, Suze Orman, Don Lemon, Thomas Roberts, and Steve Kornacki.

She was dating former FOX sportscaster Don Tollefson while they were working in Philadelphia. But surprisingly, she went public as a lesbian in March 2013 which cleared up on the fact about why she couldn’t see Tollefson as her husband. Wolfe’s partner is Stephanie Gosk. Gosk is also a journalist and currently a correspondent for the NBC network. Jenna is currently 41 years of age and stands tall with a height of 5 feet 6 inches. Even after having two children, Wolfe and Gosk are not married. Wolfe is noted to be fluent in English, French, and Creole. Her net worth is estimated to be $2 million.
