Jordan Ross Belfort is a 56-year old American author, motivational speaker, and former stockbroker. Jordan is best known for his autobiography The Wolf of Wall Street (released in 2007), which was adapted into a film of the same name starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie.

Jordan was pleaded guilty to fraud and related crimes with stock market manipulation and penny stock scam in 1999, for which he faced over a year of imprisonment. The scam not only held him captive but also cost him millions.

Jordan Belfort started his career as a salesman, selling seafood and meat. In 1987, Jordan started out as a stockbroker, and in the 1990's he started his own firm, Stratton Oakmont. Jordan managed to earn millions with his investment company Stratton Oakmont, however, he lost millions in stock market manipulation and penny stock scam.

Also, Jordan sold the rights of his autobiography, The Wolf of the Wall Street, to the adaptation of the book. The rights earned him $1.045 million adding to his net worth.

In spite of having income in millions, he has a huge debt to pay. Jordan is obliged to pay $110 million to 1500 investors he duped. In 2003, Jordan was sentenced to four years in prison, however, he only served 22 months of imprisonment.

Belfort was born in 1962, in New York City to a Jewish family. Belfort was enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry but left on the first day after the dean of the school said,

The golden age of dentistry is over. If you're here simply because you're looking to make a lot of money, you're in the wrong place.

Later, Belfort began working as a door-to-door meat and seafood salesman on Long Island. Belford claims he grew his meat selling business, employing several workers and selling 2,300 kilograms of beef and fish a week.

After that Belfort founded Stratton Oakmont. The company marketed penny stocks. During his years at the company, he enjoyed his life parting and using drugs.

In 1996, NASD expelled Stratton Oakmont. Belfort was imprisoned for securities fraud and money laundering and had to severe 22 months in prison. He was ordered to pay back $110.4 million.
Speaking of his experience as a stockbroker, Belfort stated in 2014,

I got greedy. ... Greed is not good. Ambition is good, passion is good. Passion prospers. My goal is to give more than I get, that's a sustainable form of success. ... Ninety-five percent of the business was legitimate. ... It was all brokerage firm issues. It was all legitimate, nothing to do with liquidating stocks.

Now, Belfort works as a motivational speaker and writer. Well, we hope he pays all his debt and once more accumulates a net worth he once owned.
