Grisham started working as a lawyer for more than a decade. One of his biggest achievements is his winning the election as a Democrat in the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1983. He also worked as the vice-chairman of the Apportionment and Elections Committee at the Mississippi state legislature.
It took him three years to write his first book, A Time to Kill, and it became hard for him to find a publisher. This book was rejected by more than 28 publishers; however, later he published his book through Wynwood Press in June 1989.

After that, Grisham started writing his second novel, The Firm, which was based on the story of an ambitious young attorney lured to an apparently perfect law firm. This novel remained on The New York Times bestseller list for 47 weeks and was selected as the bestselling novel of 1991.
Similarly, Grisham has written numerous novels including The Pelican Brief, The Client, The Runaway Jury, The Testament, Skipping Christmas, Gray Mountain, Rogue Lawyer, The Whistler, and The Rooster Bar. His feature films and television series are The Rainmaker, The Gingerbread Man, A Painted House Christmas with the Kranks, The Testament, and The Street Lawyer.
Grisham is popular as Kazuo Ishiguro, Jim Lehrer, and David McCullough and has won several awards including the Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award, Galaxy British Lifetime Achievement Award, Library of Congress Creative Achievement Award for Fiction, and Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction for Sycamore Row.
