Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Emily started out on her career at an early age. Emily attended the Vancouver Film School, and on completion, Emily turned to the industry with the hope of playing her luck in acting.

Emily was first introduced to the audience by the Canadian band Nickelback in 2009. In 2012, Emily had her first minor movie role in the film Random Acts of Romance, starring English-Candian actress Amanda Tapping.

Following a few minor movie roles, Emily got her breakthrough with the role of Felicity Smoak in the TV series Arrow, in 2012.

Emily was originally signed as a guest star for just an episode, but after positive reviews from her co-stars and from Warner Brothers producer Peter Roth, Emily became a full-timer on the show.
